The Collective was a group of younger artists who orbited around the significant force that was Allan Rohan Crite (1910–2007). Comprising Vusumuzi Maduna, Aukram Burton, Napoleon Jones-Henderson, Paul Goodnight, Reginald Leo Jackson, Susan Thompson, Lotus Do, Weeta Lopes, and Johnetta Tinker, the Collective formed a multi-generational, multi-cultural supportive network that thrived on the Boston scene in the 1980s. These artists gained regional, national, and international visibility, culminating with a major exhibition in China in 1986.
